Qi Lan
奇蘭
$23.00 – $55.00
Extremely aromatic with notes of wildflowers and grass. Long Herbaceous and umami finish.
Qi Lan means extraordinary orchid or rare orchid for its distinctive aroma. Our Qi Lan is crafted by one of the best tea makers of Zheng Yan (true cliff) terroir, the Zhang family. It is robust and the feeling is thick, showcasing extraordinary tea making skills, as it achieves a balance between body and aroma. It also delivers a long herbaceous and umami finish.
Yan Cha tea (Cliff Tea) is made with only the leaves, making it one of the latest teas to be harvested each year with picking time around early May for Zheng Yan. Its extensive and complex processing will take many months with the finished Yan Cha arriving in Autumn. The roasting process is skilfully done on very dim charcoal ash for 8-12 hours for 1-3 times with weeks of rest in between, all depending on the varietal to make a finished Yan Cha.
Qi Lan is a highly fragrant varietal that is straightforward floral with a hint of savory umami note. With just a single sip, one would immediately recognize its uniqueness and can hardly forget the aroma. In contrast to its intense aroma, Qi Lan usually has thin tannins and a light body. It takes a very skilled tea maker to deliver the finesse and body without compromising its signature aroma.
Health benefits: includes Catechins and Epicatechins which are antioxidants. These compounds belong to a group of plant chemicals called Flavonoids. This oolong tea is rich in polyphenols, a natural antioxidant. The amino acid L- Theanine is also present. Caffeine is present in Qi Lan.
